Environmental Geotechnics is the study of the engineering properties of soil, rock, and fluids as they pertain to the movement, containment, and fate of contaminants in the environment. Students in this program typically take a core group of courses in geotechnical engineering supplemented by additional course work in contaminant hydrology and environmental engineering. Northwestern has active research programs in many aspects of environmental geotechnics. The following web pages offer more information about Northwestern University, the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and the Environmental Geotechnics program.
